Attended by more than 130 photography enthusiasts from the capital of Indonesia and its surrounding, the 2012 Canon-Fotografer.net Gathering Series ran sociably and joyfully. Held yesterday from afternoon to evening at a café in Southern Jakarta, it was a little bit different from previous gatherings carried out in Makassar dan Palembang.

Since the gathering took place in Ramadan, a fasting month for Moslems, the attendees joined the fast-breaking session in the evening by having dinner together. All enjoyed and mingled in a friendly atmosphere.

Besides, the most awaited session was the awarding ceremony for winners of “Canon-Fotografer.net Lomba Foto Tema Bulanan 2011” (2011 Canon-Fotografer.net Monthly Thematic Photo Competition). The monthly winners were then invited to join a challenge where a theme was determined fot them to shoot.

From the challenge, three photos were selected as the first, second and third-prize winners. Ridha Aditya Nugraha as the first winner fetched Canon EOS 5d Mark II. The second and third prizes, Canon EOS 7D and 600D, went to Yanuar Akbar and Rudy Januarius respectively.

“I appreciate this Canon-Fotografer.net Lomba Foto Tema Bulanan since I think in Indonesia there are various photo subjects to shoot, not only certain genres,” said Ridha Aditya Nugraha having passion in street photography.

Through his speech in the awarding ceremony, Kristupa Saragih (co-founder of Fotografer.net) said the theme was the determining factor. “You might think that they were ordinary photos. The point is, however, when a theme is brought to you, you have to suit your photo to the theme,” he said.

Prior to the awarding ceremony was a photo sharing session presenting two fellow photographers, Christina Desitrivianti and Final Toto, who shared their photo works and experiences in street photography and digital imaging respectively. This kind of sharing has been a tradition in the Canon-Fotografer.net Gathering Series.

In the afternoon, a model shooting session started the gathering with four female models posing beautifully in front of more than a hundred photo shooters. Everyone seemed to get fun and enjoy shooting the models.

The attendees were from various photography communities  in Jakarta and its surrounding towns. “The gathering is rousing. It’s not just a gathering but also an event where we can get a lot of (photography) knowledge. The prizes are cool,” said Agung, an attendee from Jakarta.
