Facebook & Google+ Take Photography More Seriously: Which One’s Better?
Anyone having account on Facebook perhaps has noticed the new interface design featured for the photo sharing service, which is called the Facebook Lightbox. The display offered for photo sharing service has just been launched as facebook is starting to take photography more seriously. Despite the number of users accessing each of the two social media, it is somehow interesting to compare Facebook’s Lightbox with Google+, which has also improved its photo sharing service by making it more user-friendly.
Facebook’s Lightbox offers a background-darkening view mode when a photo is clicked. Compared to the old mode, this new view mode may be more pleasing though it offers not so much newness other than the appearance. However, the new interface may improve user’s photo presentation to other users.
In the other hand, Google+ also comes with similar view mode (with background-darkening mode) which also attractively shows the user’s galleries and friends’ recent photo uploads. Stepping forward, Google+ also provides Picnik—an online photo editing tools service, as well as photo sharing and discussion functions like the one offered by Flickr.
The most commented feature on Facebook photo service may be its “fairly poor” size when the photos are displayed—which can only be set to a maximum size of 960px. Meanwhile, Google+ will resize all images uploaded to a maximum of 2048px (the longest edge).
When compared side-by-side, it is shown that Facebook has re-compressed the uploaded images (the effects are visible only through careful examination, though), while Google+ displayed the uploaded images upscaled.
Which one will you choose?
