Xerox’s Aesthetic Image Search: A Photo-judging Computer Algorithm


On Open Xerox the Xerox equivalent of Google Labs), Xerox has just introduced its new tool.  Named the Aesthetic Image Search, the tool is an algorithm developed with an aim to enable a computer to judge a photograph’s aesthetic value.

Though image classification can be done based on recognition of parts in a photographs, judging its quality is something a computer hardly could do. “Here we tackle the difficult task of trying to learn automatically what makes an image special, and makes photo enthusiasts mark it as high quality,” claimed Xerox.
