Samsung Unveiled the Galaxy Xcover Waterproof Smartphone with LED flash Camera

Competing with Motorola’s DEFY or DEFY+ and the upcoming Sony Ericsson Xperia Active in the Android smartphone market, Samsung has just announced an update to its galaxy smartphone series, the Galaxy Xcover. Running Android 2.3 (Gingerbread), the touchscreen smartphone is IP67-certified dust and waterproof.

The Samsung Galaxy Xcover comes in with a 3 MP rear camera featuring smart autofocus and LED flash—which can double-function as a torch. The camera can also be used to record 30fps VGA videos. Its 3.65inch HVGA LCD touchscreen is made of certified scratch-resistant, tempered glass, ensuring its resistance to dust and water up to four to five times tougher than regular glass. The smartphone can even be immersed in water to a depth of one meter (3.28 feet), guaranting complete protection from accidental splashes.

The smartphone is scheduled to be available in Germany starting from October, while availability in the UK will follow later this year. Rumors also said that the Samsung Galaxy Xcover will be marketed in Sweden and Finland. The suggested price will be at around US$437, but it may vary in each country. gizmag.com
