New App to Control Your DSLRs via Android Devices
Chainfire—a software developer company—has introduced an application for photographers to control their DSLR cameras via Android devices. The application allows photographers to remotely control their Canon EOS DSLR cameras via USB using an Android 2.3.4 or later devices—either smartphone or tablet.
The application—named the DSLR Controller Beta—makes it possible for photographers to control their DSLR cameras without the need to hook the camera up to a computer, but just by using a compatible Android-operated smartphone or tablet. The features include Live View displaying feed with histogram, grid overlay and the like, LV autofocus by touch, and remote control of a large number of the camera’s setting.
The application has been tested on several series of Canon EOS cameras—the 600D, 550D, 60D, 50D, 7D, 5D Mark II, and the 1D Mark IV. Apparently, the compatible Android-operated device is only the Samsung Galaxy S2 with the 2.3.4 KG series (or newer) firmware. The DSLR Controller application is now available for purchase and downloads on the Android Market.
