Some exotic  animals were brought into the workshop room yesterday (7/24), stratling attendees of the Canon-Fotografer.net Workshop Series 2011 held at Bali Safari & Marine Park, Gianyar. The animals were, in fact, used to accompany some female models in the workshop’s shooting session.

The workshop in Bali, thus, became so special that it was the first to use animals (snake, eagle, owl, cockatoo) as shooting properties. This did not happen in the previous workshops organized in Yogyakarta (5/15) and Balikpapan (6/19).

Starting on Sunday morning, the workshop presented two professional photographers as speakers and mentros as well, Kristupa Saragih (founder of Fotografer.net/FN) and Dewandra Djelantik (commercial photographer based in Bali).  “Outdoor Model Photography” was the subject matter discussed and practised.

Kristupa opened the discussion in class describing in detail the importance of lighting, mainly for outdoor model shooting. Speaking after Kristupa, Dewandra explained more on practical things.

After lunch, more than 100 photography enthusiasts attending the workshop were divided into four groups since there were four female models to pose in front of them. In this session, the attendees had an opportunity to shoot the models, applying what they had received in the class.

The shooting session took place in some areas in the park with the animals accompanying the models. Mentoring was carried out by Kristupa and Dewandra to each group.

A day before, on Saturday (7/23) evening, a gathering for photography lovers was organized in the string of the Canon-Fotografer.net Gathering Series 2011. Located at Dapur Alam food court in Kuta area, this gathering was the third to hold after Makassar (5/1) and Balikpapan (6/18).

As in the previous gatherings, FN officially launched its new T-shirt products which were autographed by Kristupa in front of the attendees coming from Bali, even from Lombok Island. Three autographed T-shirts were then auctioned, and the fund derived from it will be donated for the betterment of photography activities in Bali.

Prior to the signing, Kristupa addressed a speech and received responses and questions from some attendees. Anti-pornography law became a hot topic discussed and debated. To most photographers, the law is so unclear regarding the definition of pornography that they find diffiluties to determine whether their photos are pornography-categorized or not.

A photo sharing was conducted by two Bali-based commercial photographers in the gathering. Beside showing their photos, both of them also shared their experiences in doing the business.
