Leica Announced Super-Elmar-M 21mm f/3.4 ASPH Lens

Adding to the release of the M9-P professional rangefinder camera, Leica has also unveiled its new wide-angle prime lens, the Super-Elmar-M 21mm f/3.4. Addressed for Leica’s M-series rangefinder cameras, the Super-Elmar-M promises the performance equivalent to the Leica Super-Angulon-M 21mm f/3.4—one of the world’s most highly praised lenses for available light photography and photojournalism.

The Super-Elmar-M offers brilliantly excellent reproduction of detail and exceptional contrast even at maximum aperture. The lens also ensures outstandingly effective flare optimization, resulting in images with absolute clarity and contrast. With a minimum focus distance of 0.7m, the lens uses a dual-sided aspheric element and 4 anomalous partial dispersion optical elements.

Those high-quality features are also added with a compact lightweight design; the lens is only under 2 inches long and weighs less than 10 ounces, making it easy for photographers to carry and mount it on the camera. When mounted on Leica’s M8 cameras, the Super-Elmar-M offers an angle of view equivalent to a 28mm lens. Available this July, the Super-Elmar-M 21mm f/3.4 is priced at £2025 or US$3258. dslrphoto.com
