Pentax K-r Korejanai-Robo Available for Christmas

Pentax is releasing a 100-only “Korejanai” version of its K-r DSLR in Japan, which will be available in time for Christmas; reservations start on December 24, with the shipping in January 2011. This Pentax K-r Korejanai-Robo Model is sold at Pentax Japan Online shop only, for JPY 99,800, or around US$ 1,190 — for the body, a DA L 35mm f/2.4 lens and the robot head for the hot shoe.

It essentially is the same K-r inside — 12.4-megapixel, 3-inch 920,000 dot LCD display, 6fps burst mode, in-camera HDR editing and a respected ISO 100-25600 range.

While many outside of Japan might not understand or get the meaning of this model, it is based on the Korejanai Robo which has become quite popular since 2008 when the Japan Industrial Design Promotion Organization announced that year’s Good Design Award. According to its creator, this robot is a tribute to all those little boys who always wanted to have a robot and never got one. “Korejanai” is Japanese for “this is not it,” which is probably what the little boy would scream each time he asked for a robot for Christmas, “This is not it! This is not what I wanted!” photographyblog.com, nedbunnell.posterous.com, macro-photography-blog.com, news.cnet.com
