The Provincial Government of Kepulauan Riau, Lantamal (Naval Main Base) IV, Batam Municipal Government and Bintan Regional Government were holding the first Maritime Photo Contest (Lomba Foto Maritim/LFM) at the Uban Headland of Bintan District (19/6) and at PT Pertamina Tongkang’s Dock in Kabil, Batam (20/6). This event is an attempt to promote and exhibit the Open Water Swimming Championship (Haji Fisabillillah’s Cup) in the Strait of Riau and the 2010 Maritime Festival.
The agenda on the first day was the Grand Hunting Session I — hunting and on-the-spot photo contest. While on the second day, the Grand Hunting Session II was upheld by establishing a hunting session with senior photographers invited by the committee. “The main objective of this event is to give space of photography gathering to photographers, especially those living in Kepulauan Riau,” said Wira Hadi, the committee board’s spokesperson. “We were glad to see people laughing, and we hope they were having a good time together, so they can easily build a harmonious partnership, learning and sharing in the future,” he added.
The committee bore “Man and the Maritime World” as the theme of the photo contest. The winners of both the Maritime and on-the-spot Grand Hunting categories have been announced. Tundra Laksamana, Wijaya Satria, Ali Nawawi, Indra Martino, Irwansyah Putra and Andreas Messah came up as the winners of the first category, while Indra Martino, Ade Rinaldi, M. Sina Sulaiman, Herian and Eki were of the second one.
“We would like to say thank you to 135 photographers who had sent 320 works and to 168 photographers joining this event. They came from several places, like Batam, Tanjung Pinang, Bintan, Karimun, Natuna, Lingga, Pekanbaru, Bandung, Semarang, Jakarta and Singapore,” Wira said. “Also to all judges — Budhi Ipoeng, S.H., A.FPSI**, E.FPSI; Peter Vincent, A.FPSI*; and Major Hariyo Poernomo from Lantamal IV.”
This event, considering that Indonesia is a maritime country with so many islands surrounded by sea, is somehow so tempting because everybody would think of this event as fun, amusing and adventurous, also that they could spend their time making new friends, meeting the old ones and getting/sharing knowledge. And practically, the fact says accordingly. Hence, no wonder Wira said that he and his team will be on the same event next year.
