GeoPhotos Community: Born in Campus but Open for Public
Established on May 27, 2010, Geophotos Community held a gathering at the Faculty of Geography, Gadjah Mada University, Yogyakarta, on Tuesday (6/1) afternoon. The gathering, together with a photo exhibition, was intended to inaugurate the community. Tens of people from several photography communities around Yogyakarta attended the event.
Themed “Signifying and Documenting the Earth for Global Future Life,” this gathering presented some speakers who were mostly Yogyakarta-based photographers — Berto Gesit, Dwi Oblo, Layung Buworo, Kristupa Saragih and others, and an artist/painter Samuel Indratma. Various topics were discussed, from photo tips to copyright matters, from photography education to photojournalism, from techniques to aesthetics.
Although the GeoPhotos Community was “born” in campus, it is open for public. “Everyone can join,” said Raditya Djati, the community’s chair person, to Exposure after the gathering.
GeoPhotos Community aims to provide a kind of sharing rendezvous for photography hobbyists especially having concerns in phenomenons occuring in the Earth. Moreover, it is not just a community, but also deals with stock photos and photo assignments for various purposes. ![]()
